Creating a user-friendly guide for a non-technical audience
The Challenge
Dataminr’s engineering team introduced a new content-filtering tool. Guidance provided by the engineering team was difficult to understand for the non-technical audience that would be using the tool.
The Strategy
I spoke with the operations team, attended a demo of the tool and did some testing on my own. Seeing the value of the tool, I identified the need for a simplified user guide that would lay out how to use it for maximum impact.
The Solution
Weaving in implementation examples and aiming for clarity and simplicity, I created a user-friendly resource that over 15 colleagues used to refine information streams, enhance analyst monitoring, and improve content discovery.

Selection Search Tool
The Challenge
Multiple times daily, analysts at Dataminr put together long boolean search strings (e.g. “Los Angeles” AND [“wildfire” OR “smoke”]) to scour the web for breaking news.
The Strategy
Identifying this repetitive process, I researched and tested open source tools to streamline keyword searches, presented findings to stakeholders, and conducted testing with one team to determine the helpfulness of a potential tool.
The Solution
Testing showed that the tool reduced cumulative time spent on searches by up to 30 minutes daily, enabling faster content delivery to clients. The engineering team referenced the tool when building out an in-house version.
I was invited to participate in user testing for another process improvement tool.
